iPhone 3g
Mark wasn’t the only one queuing on Friday for, probably the best piece of design this century. Of course I’m talking about the iPhone. Like Marks post I’m tapping this in on my iPhone using the intelligent virtual keyboard, which is constantly analysing my key taps to determine the right character
and word, with very few mistakes and I’m already typing as fast as a normal keyboard.
There are far too many features on this phone to go through them all now, but between Mark and I we’ll be assesing them and working out what they mean for the future of new media and use of the Internet.
Within a matters of minutes I had my phone synced with all my contacts email and calandar from my computer, and with MobileMe both will remain in perfect sync, as anything added or changed on one will immediatly sent to the other.
Along with all my music, instant access to a dozen bible translations, a full web browser, mapping with gps and hundreds of apps on the iTunes store, this phone has almost limitless possibilities.

Tags, Categories and Clouds
It was recently raised in a comment to my previous post whether Tags or Categories should be encouraged, when writing and managing blogs. It then occurred to me that some of those new to blogging, and in particular Wordpress and it’s terminology, might not understand what either of these two are or their differences. So I hope to cover both those issues with this post.

A Corporate Template for Feba Blogs
You will have noticed that your themes have all changed today, as we roll out this theme across all our current blogs. The aim, to keep a simple an uniform look and feel across all the blogs allowing you to focus on the content.
We may review this template and I will certainly be making improvements and adjustments as time allows, and possibly even create a couple of others, to give you a bit of choice. It’s not perfect yet, but as we all explore our blogs and work out how we want t use them and what plugins we want to add, this whole thing will evolve.
So let me know your thoughts and suggestions, and bear with me while I get everything tweaked just right, in the gaps between another website, you just may have heard about, that I’m working on.

Ubernyms, for those not in the know!
What’s an ubernym? Well I could write all about this plugin and explain what it does, and everytime I mention the word I’d have to explain it. Or I could just write ubernyms. Now you can hover over the word and see a nifty javascript pop-up with the explanation in. This plugin is now available in your wordpress blog, you can find it under Settings > Ubernyms Config.
The plugin is designed for common words, acronyms, pseudonyms and the like which you use frequently in your blog. It’s mainly aimed at the techies who talk about php, css, ajax and w3c standards or like to show off about new “web 2.0″ techniques like rss, mashups and voip. However, whatever your knowledge or topic is on you can add any definitions under the settings panel mentioned above. So whether your talking about hermeneutics and the synod or Feba and the chrysolite you can create instant definitions, links or a glossary of terms. Once you’ve added a word, all you have to do is type it in your blog, the script will detect it and do the rest.
Each set of words is specific to each blog too so you won’t be interfering with other blogs by adding words, so feel free to make up your own dictionary and tailor it to anything you want. Just don’t be wylin.

The D2 Blog
As someone behind the scenes of this new blogging culture and with my current role in Feba as Website Developer I’ll dub this particular blog the Design/Development (D2) blog. I’ll be using this space to explore the possibilities and limits of Wordpress and the MU setup. Looking specifically at securing different blogs to be ’staff only,’ creating a corporate look and feel across the personal blogs, and looking at ways of creating mashups and adding various plugins and new web technologies as they evolve.
So if your interested in where all this is going, what we might do next, or how design can affect your blog, this will be the place to come. However, if you have any general questions or want tech support for your blog, please head for Feba Blog Central
